The Last Days

  1. God has already spoken to us in these last days through his Son.  All of us, including the writer of Hebrews, have been living in these days. - From the Holman New Testament Commentary - Hebrews 1, VI. Deeper Discoveries A. Last Days (v. 2), pg. 14.
  2. The use of the term end of the ages in Hebrews 9:26 suggests that Jesus' first appearance concluded one age and began another.  God really spoke through the prophets, but Jesus' coming began a new era.  The curtain fell on the era of the prophets, and Jesus' coming began the final act.  We are now in the last act. - From the Holman New Testament Commentary - Hebrews 1, VI. Deeper Discoveries A. Last Days (v. 2), pg. 14.
  3. All our talk about the last days shows us that Jesus' life, death, and resurrection announce the beginning of the end.  God made his strongest move in Jesus.  Since Jesus came, we have been living in the last days.  We are surprised that concluding these last days has taken so long.  We rejoice in the greatness of what God has already done in Jesus. - From the Holman New Testament Commentary - Hebrews 1, VI. Deeper Discoveries A. Last Days (v. 2), pg. 14.
  4. We face the challenge of keeping alive our hope in Jesus' final return while we preach that God has acted conclusively to save sinners through Jesus' death and resurrection. - From the Holman New Testament Commentary - Hebrews 1, VI. Deeper Discoveries A. Last Days (v. 2), pg. 14.
  5. Acts 2:17: "In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people.  Your sons adn daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams."  - From the Holman New Testament Commentary - Hebrews 1, VI. Deeper Discoveries A. Last Days (v. 2), pg. 14.
  6. 1 Peter 1:20: "He [Jesus] was chosen before the creation of the world, but was revealed in these last times for your sake."  - From the Holman New Testament Commentary - Hebrews 1, VI. Deeper Discoveries A. Last Days (v. 2), pg. 15.
  7. 1 John 2:18: "Dear children, this is the last hour; and as you have heard that the antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come.  This is how we know it is the last hour."  - From the Holman New Testament Commentary - Hebrews 1, VI. Deeper Discoveries A. Last Days (v. 2), pg. 15.
  8. You may ask, "If these are the last days, how can we know which day Jesus is coming back?"  We can't know that day with certainty.  "Only the father" knows that day for sure (Mark 13:32).  Events like wars, earthquakes, famines, and rebellions against God will take place before the end (Mark 13: 3-8; 2 Thess. 2:3-4).  We must not spend out time trying to decide whether contemporary events herald the return of Jesus.  Our job is to live obediently like alert disciplined soldiers (1 Thess. 5:6-8).  We must be ready so that whenever Jesus comes back we will be morally prepared.  For disobedient people, Jesus' return will hit like a night robbery (1 Thess. 5:2).  Thieves don't announce their plans to their victims.  Jesus wants us to wake up, live a life of faith, love our enemies, and hope for the time of his return (1 Thess. 5:8).  We honor the Lord by living a life of moral commitment, not by wondering about the day of his return. - From the Holman New Testament Commentary - Hebrews 1, VI. Deeper Discoveries A. Last Days (v. 2), pg. 15.
  9. The end will come with the return of Jesus Christ…  That is why a Christian can be an optimist.  That is why a Christian can smile in the midst of all that is happening… We know what the end will be:  the triumph of the Lord Jesus Christ! - From page 119 of “Billy Graham in Quotes” by Franklin Graham with Donna Lee Toney.
  10. Matthew 24:42-44 “ Therefore, stay awake, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming.  But know this, that if the master of the house had known in what part of the night the thief was coming, he would have stayed awake and would not have let his house be broken into. Therefore you also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.”  - The duty required; Watch, and be ready, v. 42, 44.  (1.) Watch therefore, v. 42. Note, It is the great duty and interest of all the disciples of Christ to watch, to be awake and keep awake, that they may mind their business. As a sinful state or way is compared to sleep, senseless and inactive (1 Th. 5:6), so a gracious state or way is compared to watching and waking. We must watch for our Lord's coming, to us in particular at our death, after which is the judgment, that is the great day with us, the end of our time; and his coming at the end of all time to judge the world, the great day with all mankind. To watch implies not only to believe that our Lord will come, but to desire that he would come, to be often thinking of his coming, and always looking for it as sure and near, and the time of it uncertain. To watch for Christ's coming, is to maintain that gracious temper and disposition of mind which we should be willing that our Lord, when he comes, should find us in. To watch is to be aware of the first notices of his approach, that we may immediately attend his motions, and address ourselves to the duty of meeting him. Watching is supposed to be in the night, which is sleeping time; while we are in this world, it is night with us, and we must take pains to keep ourselves awake.  (2.) Be ye also ready. We wake in vain, if we do not get ready. It is not enough to look for such things; but we must therefore give diligence, 2 Pt. 3:11, 14. We have then our Lord to attend upon, and we must have our lamps ready trimmed; a cause to be tried, and we must have our plea ready drawn and signed by our Advocate; a reckoning to make up, and we must have our accounts ready stated and balanced; there is an inheritance which we then hope to enter upon, and we must have ourselves ready, made meet to partake of it, Col. 1:12.
    2. The reasons to induce us to this watchfulness and diligent preparation for that day; which are two.

(1.) Because the time of our Lord's coming is very uncertain. This is the reason immediately annexed to the double exhortation (v. 42, 44); and it is illustrated by a comparison, v. 43. Let us consider then,
[1.] That we know not what hour he will come, v. 42. We know not the day of our death, Gen. 27:2. We may know that we have but a little time to live (The time of my departure is at hand, 2 Tim. 4:6); but we cannot know that we have a long time to live, for our souls are continually in our hands; nor can we know how little a time we have to live, for it may prove less than we expect; much less do we know the time fixed for the general judgment. Concerning both we are kept at uncertainty, that we may, every day, expect that which may come any day; may never boast of a year's continuance (James 4:13), no, nor of tomorrow's return, as if it were ours, Prov. 27:1; Lu. 12:20.
[2.] That he may come at such an hour as we think not, v. 44. Though there be such uncertainty in the time, there is none in the thing itself:though we know not when he will come, we are sure he will come. His parting word was, Surely I come quickly; his saying, "I come surely," obliges us to expect him:his saying "I come quickly." obliges us to be always expecting him; for it keeps us in a state of expectancy. In such an hour as you think not, that is, such an hour as they who are unready and unprepared, think not (v. 50); nay, such an hour as the most lively expectants perhaps thought least likely. The bridegroom came when the wise were slumbering. It is agreeable to our present state, that we should be under the influence of a constant and general expectation, rather than that of particular presages and prognostications, which we are sometimes tempted vainly to desire and wish for.

  11. In the present Scripture of Isaiah, the Lord gives Isaiah a glimpse into the future. Three astounding and major events are revealed to him. And because the revelation is by God Himself, believers of all generations can know with certainty that they will take place. All three major events will take place in the last days of human history. Therefore, any believer still alive should heed the warnings given and act before it is too late. These events are, The Future Kingdom and Temple of God, the Day of the Lord, and the Restoration of Israel: Three Key Events in the Future, 2:1–4:6.
    1. The future kingdom and temple of God: a picture of Christ’s rule on earth (Isa. 2:1-5).
    2. The future Day of the Lord, His terrifying judgment (Isa. 2:6–4:1).
    3. The glorious restoration of Israel: assured by the Branch of the Lord (Christ) (Isa. 4:2-6).

  12. Matthew 24:3-14 - As he sat on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him privately, saying, “Tell us, when will these things be, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?” And Jesus answered them, “See that no one leads you astray. For many will come in my name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and they will lead many astray. And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not alarmed, for this must take place, but the end is not yet. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and there will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are but the beginning of the birth pains.
“Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and put you to death, and you will be hated by all nations for my name's sake. And then many will fall away and betray one another and hate one another. And many false prophets will arise and lead many astray. And because lawlessness will be increased, the love of many will grow cold. But the one who endures to the end will be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.

  13. Mark 13:3-13 - And as he sat on the Mount of Olives opposite the temple, Peter and James and John and Andrew asked him privately, “Tell us, when will these things be, and what will be the sign when all these things are about to be accomplished?” And Jesus began to say to them, “See that no one leads you astray. Many will come in my name, saying, ‘I am he! ’ and they will lead many astray. And when you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not be alarmed. This must take place, but the end is not yet. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be earthquakes in various places; there will be famines. These are but the beginning of the birth pains.
“But be on your guard. For they will deliver you over to councils, and you will be beaten in synagogues, and you will stand before governors and kings for my sake, to bear witness before them. And the gospel must first be proclaimed to all nations. And when they bring you to trial and deliver you over, do not be anxious beforehand what you are to say, but say whatever is given you in that hour, for it is not you who speak, but the Holy Spirit. And brother will deliver brother over to death, and the father his child, and children will rise against parents and have them put to death. And you will be hated by all for my name's sake. But the one who endures to the end will be saved.

  14. Luke 21: 7-19 -  And they asked him, “Teacher, when will these things be, and what will be the sign when these things are about to take place?” And he said, “See that you are not led astray. For many will come in my name, saying, ‘I am he! ’ and, ‘The time is at hand! ’ Do not go after them. And when you hear of wars and tumults, do not be terrified, for these things must first take place, but the end will not be at once.”
     Then he said to them,
“Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be great earthquakes, and in various places famines and pestilences. And there will be terrors and great signs from heaven. But before all this they will lay their hands on you and persecute you, delivering you up to the synagogues and prisons, and you will be brought before kings and governors for my name's sake. This will be your opportunity to bear witness. Settle it therefore in your minds not to meditate beforehand how to answer, for I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which none of your adversaries will be able to withstand or contradict. You will be delivered up even by parents and brothers and relatives and friends, and some of you they will put to death. You will be hated by all for my name's sake. But not a hair of your head will perish. By your endurance you will gain your lives."

  15. Matthew 24:36 - No one in the entire Bible speaks of hell as much as Jesus. In fact, he does so in this very chapter, saying in verse 51 that the servant who is found to have been unfaithful when the master returns will be “cut … to pieces” and assigned “a place with the hypocrites, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.” In the next chapter “weeping and gnashing of teeth” is joined to “darkness,” “eternal fire,” and “eternal punishment,” meaning hell. When Jesus says that “one will be taken and the other left,” he means that not all will be saved. Many will be lost. Be sure that you are not among those who perish when Jesus returns.
And there is this point too:No one will be saved simply by being close to or even related to another person who is a Christian. Salvation is not a hereditary matter. On the contrary, you must believe on Jesus, and you must be ready. -From the Boice Expositional Commentary Series
  16. When the “evil day” comes, we do not have to be dependent on the circumstances around us, but rather on the resources of God! - From page 120 of “Billy Graham in Quotes” by Franklin Graham with Donna Lee Toney.
  17. The New Testament definitely says that the last days began when Christ came to earth. Since Jesus Christ’s coming, history is in its last stage. Right now, the time between Christ’s first coming and the day of final judgment is called the age of grace—the age when God’s mercy and grace are flowing out to the world through His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. How long these last days will last is not known. The point to remember is this fact: from God’s perspective, this period of history from the sending of His Son to the world right up to the end of human history is known as…
    • these last days (He. 1:2)
    • the last time (1 Pe. 1:5; 1 Jn. 2:18; Jude 1:18)
    • the last days (Ac. 2:17; 2 Ti. 3:1; 2 Pe. 3:3)

  18. Today, Satan works against the regathering of Israel in the land which God has sworn to them.  The Arabs block them physically from possession of the land while theologically, every device is used to bury the truth in obscurity.  Some  hold that the Anglo-Saxon nations are the supposed lost tribes and that therefore there are no promises to the jews.  The millenarians take all the promises that belong to the Jews and apply them to the Church, leaving the curses, as Satan likes to do, for the Jews.  The cults of Jehovah’s Witnesses, the Seventh-day Adventists and others hold various theories that deprive Israel of her kingdom glories.  But just as the Lord has always fulfilled His promises and kept Satan short of his goal, so He will continue faithful to the end.  He will one day rule this earth through a redeemed Jewry. - From pages 106-107 of the book Invisible War by Donald Grey Barnhouse.
  19. “But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness, Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat? Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness” (2 Pe. 3:10-13).
  20. Jesus says that sin and the destruction it causes in society will go from bad to worse as the time of his coming approaches. Religious deception (24:4–5), war (24:6–7a), and natural disaster (24:7b) will continue to plague the world, but as the end of all things gets closer, persecution of Jesus’ disciples will be added to this list of troubles (24:9–13). Jesus’ followers will, nevertheless, continue to preach the gospel to the people groups of the world (24:14), and, after a final surge of societal evil (24:15–28), Jesus himself will break into the world’s sinful routine, gather his people to himself, and end the world’s rebellion against its Creator (24:29–31). - From the reading from Matthew 24-1 - 25:46 in the Gospel Transformation Bible Notes by Crossway Publisher..
  21. Satan has sponsored the idea that the world is to become a beautiful kingdom, called the kingdom of God.  The message is clear and plain in the Bible, but Satan has confused the thinking of many people by religious teaching which is false.  The Satanic teaching has become so commonplace that many people look in  startled wonder at the Bible teacher who brushes away the encrustations of flasehood and returns to the clean rock of truth.  The Lord God today is not saving the world.  The Lord Jesus Christ announced that all its works were evil and refused to pray for it (John 17:9).
In refusing to pray for the world, the Lord did not refuse to pray for a portion of the people in the midst of the world.  He prayed for those who were given to Him by the Father (John 17:9).  All of the Lord’s work today is in relation to this group, which He has called the Church. The greek word is ekklesia, and comes from the preposition ek, “out of,” and a verb kaleo, “to call.”  God is not saving the world, and at no time, since the creation or before, did He ever have the ideaof saving the whole world.  God is not saving any nation in its entirety, although all the members of one nation living at a certain future time will be saved at that time.  God is not saving all the members of any one church denomination.  What God is doing is to take out a people for His name. …
The Lord is not dealing primarily with the world today; He is in the process of calling out His flock.  the world which has long abandoned God has been abandoned by Him (Romans 1:24,26, 28), and His one concern during this age is the out-calling and care of His flock of believers.
      - From pages 234 & 235 of the book Invisible War by Donald Grey Barnhouse.
  22. In the first of these parable, we are told that this age was to be a seed-sowing age. … Some would fall on stony ground and would be burned out because of the shallowness of its rooting.  This would happen, the Lord said, when persecution would arise “because of the Word.” It is interesting to note that the real divisions within Christianity today may all be traced to a different attitude toward the Bible.  Whether it is Rome that puts tradition and ecclesiastical authority above the Bible, or whether it is a liberal Protestantism that puts the human critical faculties above the Bible, it is always the inspired Book that is the touchstone of truth.  But some seed, and only some, would fall on the ground and would grow to maturity, producing a hundredfold, sixtyfold and thirtyfold.  This is the Lord’s own teaching and the Lord’s own interpretation.  - From page 236 of the book Invisible War by Donald Grey Barnhouse.
  23. The devil has worked in at least two ways to overcome the announced plan of God to bring righteousness upon the earth through the return of the Lord Jesus Christ and through the superimposition of the kingdom of God by the direct act of the Lord Himself.  The one effort has been to build a temporal religious kingdom and claim all the promises for it; the other has been to deny the material reality of the future kingdom and look for the gradual coming of some kingdom of sweetness and light by the efforts of man.  The one has been largely Roman Catholic, the other has largely been Protestant.
The first of these efforts finds its fulcrum on the hill of the Vatican.  We look back at the Scriptures and see that the true Church was to be composed of those who were born again, called out of the world and hated by it.  The body of believers was to be a company of witnesses to the truth in the midst of a
Christ-rejecting world, despised and rejected by that world even as Christ had been rejected of men (Isaiah 53:3).  There was to be an organization, yes, but it was to be a simple thing - twelve disciples, seven deacons, and elders ordained in every community. …Men has fancied that the tiny mustard seed was the beginning of a great world religious organization, that its foliage would fill the whole earth, and that all would rest in its branches or lodge in its shadow.  Ultimately the Church would triumph, and man would have done it all - with slight aid here and there from God. - From pages 240 & 241 of the book Invisible War by Donald Grey Barnhouse.
  24. The point to note is that the timeframe of the last days being discussed by Christ stretched from His day up to the very end of the world. His answer to the apostles suggests this fact: Christ was saying that His coming launched the last days. The signs and events the apostles were to experience would be duplicated in the lives of believers down through the generations. These signs and events—at least many of them—would lead right up to the end of the world. Note the beginning of Christ’s discussion in Mt. chs. 24–25:  “And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world? And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you. For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many. And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. All these are the beginning of sorrows. Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name’s sake. And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another. And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many. And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold. But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come [note the end]” (Mt. 24:3-14). - From the reading about Isaiah 2:1-6 in the Preacher’s Outline and Sermon Bible Old and New Testament Commentary Set (44-Volumes) - by Alpha-Omega Ministries, Publisher: Leadership Ministries Worldwide
  25. The second effort of Satan is, for the most part, within the midst of Protestantism.  It has been more subtle because its motives seemed to be unselfish, and its methods seemed to be pure. Theologians agreed that the kingdom would come on earth, but developed the idea that instead of its coming at the retun of Christ, brought by Him full-grown from heaven, it would come slowly be the religious efforts of the Church.  the Church, not temporal, but spiritual, would slowly expand until all the earth was included in its embrace, until all the sons of Adam had developed their potential goodness to the point where theor eveil would be swallowed up by their good.  Men would love to love one another, and gradually truth and righteousness would triumph; the sweet atmosphere of brotherhood would settle down over all.  ….
The poor deluded man had simply failed to see that it was a great Satanic counterfeit, born of Satan the father, carried on by the power of antichrists, and in the unholy spirit of opposition to the revealed will of God.  If man is to bring the kingdom of God on earth, either by the preaching of the Gospel, or by his efforts at social reform and environmental improvement, then much of the Bible will ahve to be rewritten to suit the pride of man  The parables of our Lord that He Himself explained will have to be done over. …
It sounds pretty, but it makes Jesus Christ a false prophet. -  From pages 242 & 243 of the book Invisible War by Donald Grey Barnhouse.
  26. In light of these objectives by Satan, we can see developing n the world a combination of the two movements.  A Protestant imitation of Rome. How else can we look upon the ecumenical movement that seeks to tie in the Greek Ortodox Church (with its veneration of Mary and its prayer for the dead), with the American church organizations (with their unitarianizing liberalism), and the state churches of Europe (with their cold and dead formalism)?  A leading French theologian, the late Doyen Emile Doumergue, once pointed ut that fusion without a true theological basis was nothing but confusion. -  From page 243 of the book Invisible War by Donald Grey Barnhouse.
  27. One of the oldideas that needs to go down is the idea that we are building the kingdom of God on earth.  It is, if we analyze it closely, a distortion of the ideas that Satan introduced into the Church at the time the mustard plant burgeoned into an abnormal tree: temporal ecclesiasticism.  Of that Church God has said in advance, “I know thy works, that thou hast a name that thou livest, and art dead (Revelation 3:1). -  From page 244 of the book Invisible War by Donald Grey Barnhouse.
  28. From the way the Church has acted during the past two thousand years, one would think that the Lord had said, “Fritter until I come.”  There seem to be clerics in this and other countries who seriously believe that it is possible to reform society without regenerating power of the Lord Jesus Christ in the life of an individual.  There seem to be those who seriously believe that the greed of the economic system can be mitigated by taking possessions away from those who have acquired or inherited them and spreading them out, rather thinly perhaps, among those who have been less fortunate.  Too often those who thus act to destroy our present system wish to hold the power of distribution in their own hands, and sometimes they wish to hold the actual possessions for themselves. -  From page 245 of the book Invisible War by Donald Grey Barnhouse.
Observation  - If one were to try to apply this concept to the motivation of political parties, which party does this most likely represent, Conservatives who seek capitalism or Progressive Leftist who favor wealth redistribution and globalism?  This globalism favored by the Progressive Leftist is one where the no borders globalism removes borders (and a country’s sovereignty) and unites the world in some global redistribution process that lands power in the hands of a few global leaders.  These leaders, who gain the power to place religion further in the background and place government as the source of all power and worship, since this governing body will be the single source of survival for a large portion of the world, which will then come to depend on the nanny state who provides shelter, food, healthcare, propaganda news (like today’s main stream media) and free cellphone service, which they can then monitor.  Is this some conspiracy theory or is this part of a plan laid out in the Bible, as the world drifts away from Jesus the Bible’s teachings and places more faith in man and faith that man should have rights to do anything or be anything, regardless of violation of morals or laws rooted in the Bible?
  29. There is a fourth distortion of the kingdom idea: the belief that the kingdom of heaven has no outward manifestation at all, but that it is something entirely within man.  There have been many who have taken the ambiguous seventeenth century English translation of a statement made by our Lord and have used the error of a single preposition to build a new doctrine that would destroy the doctrine of the fall and the doctine of redemption.  “The kingdom of God is within you” says the King James Version (Luke 17:21).  The devil and his theologians picked up the preposition like an opposing football player snapping up a fumble and have attempted to run through all truth to make their goal.  “Ah! yes!” they say, talking very fast, “the kingdom of God is within you.  There is a spark of the divine in all men.  You are not to think that the fall left men in a hopeless position.  There is much good in man.  There is even some good in man that can satisfy God.  Surely God must be pleased with all the desire for good that man brings out of his heart.  There is a spirit of kindliness, of charity, of unselfishness in man that is glorious.  If only you will understand these potentialities that are within.  If you will hold the thought of the good, the true, the beautiful, all life will become good and true and beautiful. Nothing is anything but thinking makes it so.”  And these people wrap a smirk across their faces and go about in a perpetual haze of do-goodism, quite sure that everything is all right in this best of all possible worlds.  they assure us that, if we only think peace, we can change the nature of Russia and make the atomic bomb an unreality. -  From page 245 of the book Invisible War by Donald Grey Barnhouse.
Observation - This is akin to those religious preachers who teach that if we just think something positive (Word of Faith)and put it into words that we plant it and set it into motion.  The faith here is in man and his thoughts and words.  See the works of Joel Osteen and Joyce Meyer and many others who sow the wrong seeds.  Are they more like motivational speakers who sprinkle in and twist God’s Word?  I think that Hank Hannegraft refers to this as “scriptorture" instead of Scripture.  Find and read Hank Hannegraft’s book “Christianity in Crisis  - 21st Century” who also identifies the preachings of Kenneth Copeland, Benny Hinn,John Hagee and T.D. Jakes, among others mentioned in his book as executing scriptorture using Word of Faith type teachings which blend modern new thought metaphysics with religion producing a counterfeit message.
  30. Judgment:  When the Day of the Lord comes, the reaction of the people will be that of terror and panic (vv. 10-21).People will seek to escape, hiding in the rocks and caves of the earth, fleeing from the majestic glory and splendor of the Lord. Having denied and rebelled against the Lord all of their lives, they will finally see that Jesus Christ is the Lord God of the universe. His majestic glory will humble the arrogant and prideful of this earth, and they will be brought low. The Lord alone will be exalted in the day of His majestic glory and judgment (v. 11).
In fact, the whole world will be humbled in the Day of the Lord (vv. 12-18):⇒ All the proud and lofty—all who have exalted themselves—will be humbled.⇒ All the exalted beauty of creation, such as the cedars of Lebanon and the oaks of Bashan, will be humbled before the majestic glory of the Lord.⇒ All the towering mountains and high hills of the earth in their splendid, natural beauty will be humbled before the Lord’s majestic glory.⇒ All the world’s military power and defenses, every lofty tower and fortified wall will be humbled in the face of the Lord’s terrifying judgment.⇒ All the businesses and economies of this earth, every great commercial ship and every small commercial and recreational boat will be humbled before the glory of the Lord.⇒ All the arrogance and pride of man will be brought low and humbled, and the Lord alone will be exalted in the day of his terrifying judgment.⇒ All the idols and false worship will be totally destroyed in that great Day of the Lord (v. 18).

  31.  The Lord Jesus Christ declared that the Scriptures cannot be broken (John 10:35), but the Holy Spirit, through Peter, declared that they could be twisted (II Peter 3:16).  How this Scripture has been wrested by the unlearned and the unstable, even to their own ddestruction!  This false idea is one of the foundation principals of such cults as Christian Science and Unity, and it has been adopted into much of modernistic Prostentism.  What is man?  the Bible answers that there is nothing but the fallen, Adamic nature.  The carnal mind is enmity against God. )Romans 8:7); the heart is deceiptful above all things and incurably sick (Jeremiah 17:9, Hebrew); and the will of the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit, they are foolishness unto him (I Corinthians 2:14).  Oh no! says the cultist or the liberal, you are mistaken.  There is within you sweetness and light and the Kingdom of God.  Cultivate it, and it will produce brotherhood and peace.  The Word of God gives the lie to such an idea, and the crashing of our civilization in the doom that is to come will show what man is capable of, as man brings himself to the only result that is consistent with his fallen nature. -  From page 248 of the book Invisible War by Donald Grey Barnhouse.
  32. Day of the Lord (Jehovah): in the simplest of terms, the Day of the Lord is a dramatic period of time when God executes swift judgment on the wicked and saves the righteous. Throughout history the Day of the Lord has fallen time and again to save God’s people. But the Day of the Lord in the latter days of human history refers to the day when Christ will return to execute judgment on earth. It is a definite day that is coming to earth, and it is coming at the end of the last days, at the end of the present age. - From the reading about Judgment in Isaiah 2:6 - 4:1 in the Preacher’s Outline and Sermon Bible Old and New Testament Commentary Set (44-Volumes) - by Alpha-Omega Ministries, Publisher: Leadership Ministries Worldwide
  33. I have been doing some reading lately wondering if we are entering the "last days,” trying to view trends in relation to Biblical prophecy.  While I know that no man can predict these things, it still doesn’t stop me from looking for and at current events and comparing them to Biblical prophecy and events in the Bible.  For instance, in Genesis, man tries to create a man-made solution by building the Tower of Babel, trying to unify the world, unify languages and into one peaceful world, dependent on man and not God.  If we recall, God brought confusion by scrambling the one language into many, so communication was babbel.  From Hank Hannagraff - It is the spirit of John Lennon’s song "Imagine.”  The song asked listeners to imagine a time when there was no heaven, no hell, no countries, nothing to kill or die for, no religion, no possessions, no need for greed or hunger… a time of living for today, living life in peace… a time when the world will live as one. The emphasis is on peace and prosperity for all.  But like all utopian dreams, the song has no basis in reality. Contrary to what the lyrics wish for, there is such a thing as religion; there is a heaven and a hell. There are ideals worth dying for. Wishful thinking, no matter how lofty, will not produce a wizard’s wand to sweep these realities out of existence and give us a world where differences in religion, ethics, ideals, economics, and culture don’t matter.  The differences in cultures, religions, goals, and economics among the nations are far too vast to be melded into a true unity. It would be a unity of mere appearance— a false unity.
Today, in the U.S. the Democratic party movement is trying to make government the solution to all our problems, to marginalize capitalism, which promoted competition and has kept the U.S. on the path of prosperity and a nation where everyone from around the world wanted to come to enjoy the freedoms to make their way in the world, as in the U.S. you had the best chance to start your own business, work hard and give it your best shot.  The environment was not as strangled with regulations and high tax rates which both raise the bar too high to be successful. Yes, there were winners and losers, which is what competition does.  It used to be that churches and charities played a more important role in helping the poor and less fortunate, God’s people taking care of each other.  But greed and jeolousy didn’t like the fact that some people had more than others and voted the Democrat ticket, which is essentially a vote for big government, a nanny state, one of wealth redistribution, a more socialistic model where instead of the government working for the people, the people work for the government and the people become reliant on the ideology of the few who are in power of government.  The government relies on the more successful people to forcefully hand over their hard-earned wealth through increased taxation to support the less successful.  It stymies competition as the wealthy and money seeks better returns, which is outside the U.S. and given that the more successful are now paying more in taxes, they have less profits on which to hire people.  Unemployment escalates and then the absurdly inefficient government requires more taxes to increase entitlements to the unemployed who have become dependent on the government for longer periods of time.  Government extends the unemployment payment periods since more people are staying unemployed or underemployed longer.  The government provides the unemployed with cell phones and other luxuries that they cannot afford.  The entitlements have gotten so large that most of its recipients have cell phones, big screen TVs and have lost their desire to work, as the cost/benefit tradeoff is out of balance.  Why work a 40-hour week to just earn a little more than they are getting through entitlements.
Govenment is trying to take over banking, healthcare, utilities and has even moved to take over large companies such as General Motors.  More regulations were put in place by the government and are being put in place even today that strangle competition.  Philadelphia just passed a tax on the consumption of soft drinks because the government thinks drinking soda is bad for the people of that city.  The government is making decisions on what the few think is good for us and not letting its citizens govern for themselves their own diet!  This puts control of many areas of our lives under the control of a few people who think they know what is best for us.  We have seen this tyranical level of control fail all over the world time and time again, yet many are like sheep being led to slaughter and keep voting for this to happen.  We watch as other governments who have handed control over to the inefficient government, pull their countries down, as its peoples become more reliant on entitlements from their governments and less reliant on God to help them and bless them. For instance, look at Venezuela.
President Barrack Hussein Obama continued his campaigning all the way through his eight years of office, which makes you think he is making his case to be world leader.  He continues his efforts even today, trying to stymie the efforts of a new U.S. President to reverse the changes which have set back the United states 10 or more years, including the ideals of capitalism and focus on God, upon which the U.S. was founded and advance Islam. It appears he puts more faith in pleasing the United Nations and the world than he does maintaining the health, education, welfare and security of his own country and its peoples.  He negotiates with known sponsors of terror and  minimizes the Christian influence in America, and pushes away the Judeo Christian ideals and foundation that this country was built on and instead elevates Islam.  He has plunged America into its deepest level of debt, weakening the very country that has given most help and leadership to the world, helping countries that are experiencing crisis.
The dollar is weaker than ever, and the establishment of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and more recently the Financial Stability Board (FSB) has been set up to establish more of a world economy.  The result of the G20 Summit seems to have flown under the radar for most Americans. A global plan was adopted that called for uniform regulations and bylaws that will be governed by the Financial Stability Board (FSB). This board includes representatives from all G20 countries, Spain, and the European Commission and will “comprise senior representatives of national financial authorities… international financial institutions, standard setting bodies, and committees of central bank experts.”  Whether or not they intend to keep their commitment, all the G20 members have agreed to put their important financial institutions, instruments, and markets under the authority of a single regulatory agency: the Financial Stability Board. The World Bank, the IMF, and now the FSB are organizations-in-waiting. The leader of the one-world government of the Tribulation will need such organizations in order to control the economic lives of nations and their people.  Banks currently are being so over-regulated that their costs have been driven up immeasurably to the point they struggle to be profitable.  This really chokes down the community banks.  And heaven forbid banks if they introduce new products and price these products for the inherent risk merited for the product.  The CFPB swoops in and declares that the bank is overcharging the customer.  Now the bank can’t appropriately price for risk and has to drop the product.  This overregulation is causing the banks to have more stringent lending criteria as well to where fewer loans are being made and this is choking the economy.  So, the government is practically trying to run the financial institutions and move them more towards being a utility under government control.
Also consider the push by President Obama for the TPP against the will of the people. The Trans-Pacific Partnership, TPP, is a sweeping 12-nation regulatory pact that empowers an international commission of unelected foreign bureaucrats to rule on everything from U.S. border controls to our food, drugs, energy and Internet.  If approved, TPP would lay the groundwork for entangling the U.S. in a Pacific Union akin to the European Union the voters of Great Britain just rejected (Brexit vote). Like the European Union, TPP institutionalizes the free movement of people, goods and capital across borders. The U.S., like other countries who decide to participate would lose their sovereignty.  Allow a large contingency of Muslims into your country who do not want to assimilate and become part of the American culture and want to ignore the U.S. Constitution and its laws and instead implement Shariah law (the law of Islam).  Given that Islam labels all unbelievers and followers of the Islam god of Allah as infidels that do not deserve to live, and women lose all rights and it results in more violence as has been witnessed as of late with more killings of innocent people and more widespread terror, which limits the freedoms and rights we have come to enjoy.
Consider that in the past, to come into America, you had to prove that you wanted to be an American and had to attest that you would be an individual who can be self-sufficient and contributed to American society.  Instead today, with the open borders, there is no requirement that you have to prove you can be self-sufficient or contribute to society.  No wonder everyone wants to come into America, as come and be handed a government paid for cell phone, food stamps and subsidized housing and don’t forget to vote for a Democrat who provides you all these freebies and the nonincentive to work or contribute to society.  People used to want to enter into America to share the American dream which was opportunity to be self sufficient and contribute to society.  Nowhere else in the world was a better example of the benefits of a capitalistic free market system than in America, where one could start with nothing and through the results of hard work, achieve financial freedom and self sufficiency and have the ability to give back to society.  At least that was the case before the two-term Obama administration, who started choking down capitalism with excessive regulations, higher taxes and increased welfare benefits (which has expanded exponentially under this administration) has the American dream morphed from contribution to entitlement creating a nanny entitled state.
Money is smart in that it seeks the greatest return.  If it is over-taxed like the situation is in the United States, it seeks solutions that present fair taxation, like companies, that are beholden to public shareholders to seek the higher return for the shareholder. Sometimes these solution are presented by the lower rates in other countries. For individuals, the top one percent of income earners, who paid 38 percent of federal income taxes, faced an effective tax rate of 23 percent. This was nearly seven times higher than the effective rate of 3 percent paid by the bottom half of income earners. The bottom half of income earners paid only 3 percent of federal income taxes and earned 11 percent of total adjusted gross income. The point is that a bloated ever expanding government (like that proposed by the Democrat Party), who also wants to hand out benefits to aliens, requires more and more money from corporate and individual taxpayers.  And their solution is to kill the golden goose (the more profitable companies and more successful individuals).  But the golden goose may fly away to survive before they can kill it as evidenced by money leaving the U.S. to get fairer treatment.
Also proposed by the Democrat party is to raise minimum wages, saying that no one can live on less than $15 per hour.  It is true that anyone would have a hard time living on $15 per hour today.  It is nearly impossible.  But keep in mind that these are entry level jobs are are not meant to be lifetime positions that are meant to sustain a family.  If one works hard, they are to move up or out of these positions and make substantially more than $15 per hour.  All that increasing the minimum wage to $15 an hour will do is three things. First, it will reduce the number of employees hired since salaries and benefits probably represents about a third of the cost of a company to operate (probably more with Obama Care). This will raise unemployment and people who would have received jobs at lower wage levels will now have no jobs.  Secondly, if the wages are increased, these costs are passed along in the pricing of goods and services, making everything more expensive, which puts a greater burden on lower income earners. And lastly, it will make the barrier to entry for a new business to form even that much more difficult, especially with the increased regulations and Obama Care both proposed by the Democrat Party.  So, in conclusion, it results in higher unemployment, fewer business startups (which traditionally has been the job creation engine for the United States) and will raise prices putting more burden on lower income earners.
The U.S. government (the Democrat Party) singularly voted for a government takeover of national health care, which is really another piece of the wealth redistributuion initiative set forth soley by the progressive Democrats, which raises the cost of everyone’s insurance.  The promise that you can keep you doctor and insurance was a lie.  And now, little by little, fewer and fewer individuals are being positioned for making more and more healthcare decisions, including business rules on minimizing healthcare costs by using a small panel of non-doctors to decide under what conditions patients will have a right to healthcare to survive.  Under this scenario if you are older, the government might decide that since you don’t have many expected years to live, spending a lot of money on an operation to help you survive would be not be a wise business decision or prudent use of the government dollars (which are really taxpayer dollars paid in by mostly the wealthy as a part of the wealth redistribution scheme).  Larger government is hungry for more money to operate and has stolen money from the taxpayers by robbing Social Security and Medicare, which is projected to go broke in the future, meaning that monies that taxpayers had forcefully taken out of their paychecks as social security tax, as a means to help sustain themselves for retirement, has like all things that is handled by big government, been mismanaged, stolen and used on other things besides setting aside for its intended purpose (government aid like cell phones and food stamps to aliens who are not yet U.S. citizens).   In fact, there is a proposal to rename the social security monies, which is technically our money that the govenment told us they would save for us and call it a govenrment benefit, like it was money originated by the govenment that they may let us have and this money will be put in a bigger pot so they wcan take more out of it.  It never ends.  Mismanagement has resulted in many people who are not supposed to get social security benefits, receive them and a lot of monies have been lost to fraud.  Big government where the lives of many are placed in the hands of the few is not the answer and will end up bankrupting the United States and its citizens. Also, voters have been lulled into believe that they are entitled to the government providing for all their needs (which is the Democrat Party’s message and platform).  Free college, cell phones, food stamps, subsidized housing and retirement.  You shouldn’t have to work to get these says the Democrat Party, we will just take from the successful hard working people and give to the less successful hard working people and everything will be good.  This wealth redistribution scheme of the Democrat party kills the incentive of people to work.  It creates an entitled society, a nanny state.  Socialism at its best.  This model has never worked and has failed in every country it has been implemented.  Whatever happened the American ideal that one worked hard to make their own way in life and contribute to society and church and help their fellow man?  Does not anyone have any ambition any more to do your very best and make your own way in life and not be a drain on society?  When will America wake up and get going and steer clear of large government and become more reliant on God and His plan and vote with their feet to get off the disasterous path that we are currently on? Apparently this happened when Donald Trump was elected and people realized that the liberal (Democrat controlled) media continues to proliferate the lies of the problems of government and the obstructionist Democrat party who wants to deny the American people the changes they voted for, a return to capitalism, roll back of regulations, return healthcare to the people, focus back on God, reduce taxes to again bring the U.S. back to what made it the great country it used to be where it can again be self-sustaining and be able to help other counties and help do its best to maintain peace in the world. Under the Democratic Obama rule, the U.S. lost respect and its position as a recognized leader.  "The Obama lead from behind” was really withdrawal from the leadership role to try to organize around a one-world government, where no country has sovereignty, but the world answers to the power of a few.  We might recognize this as setting the stage for the antichrist. While this may sound like conspiracy theory, are these actions happening or not and how will this all play out and to what end?  Little by little we are being prepared for the coming centralized government of the final world order and its global economy.  The Bible tells us in Daniel 7 and Revelation 13 that such an authoritative government will emerge under the control of a powerful world leader. The nations will open their arms to welcome this leader’s promise of peace. But it will be a false promise extended in deception in order to manipulate humanity.  Is the world in its efforts to centralize their governments into more socialistic governing structures (where people become more dependent on government - instead of God) combined with the recent attempts at globalization of all the governments into one larger structure where the decisions of a few govern everything in our lives, aligning itself up for governing by one world leader known as the Antichrist?  Are we seeing the early stages and alignment of structures for this to occur?  Wake up America and its people and put God first and pray to God for his divine guidance on every vote you make and let’s return America to the “In God we Trust” country that made America what is was before the progressive Democrats took control.  Let’s return to putting God first and elect leaders who earnestly seek His guidance in running America.
  34. Throughout Scripture, at least four events are discussed as happening on the Day of the Lord: the terrible tribulation, the return of Christ as Sovereign Lord, judgment, and the remaking of the universe.
    a. A terrible period of tribulation (7 years): this includes the last half of the period known as the great tribulation (3½ years). This is the fulfillment of Daniel’s seventieth week (Da. 9:27). (See outline and notes—Mt. 24:15-28; Mk. 13:1-37; Lu. 21:20-24; Re. 6:1–19:21. Also see Is. 13:6-16; Eze. 30:1-26; Joel 1:15; 2:1-11; Zep. 1:7-18; Zec. 14:1-15.)
    b. The return of Christ as sovereign Lord: He will rule and reign in glory upon earth (the millennial reign of God’s Son, Re. 20:4-6).
    c. The resurrection and final judgment of all: this will include…
    • men who are described as sheep and goats (Mt. 25:31-46; Re. 20:11-15)
    • the Beast or the antichrist, the false prophet, and their followers (Re. 19:11-21)
    • Satan and his angels (Re. 20:10)
    d. The destruction and remaking of the earth and heavens (the universe) (2 Pe. 3:3-15; Re. 21:1; see Is. 65:17; 66:22).

  35. Consider this prediction made in 2 Timothy 3:1-5: But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. Are we becoming lovers of ourselves?  Consider that the church used to be the source for which charitable contributions helped the poor.  Now, government wants to play that role by distributing wealth involuntarily and one has to admit inefficiently, where over 43 million in the United States are now living on welfare.  Has Facebook become the number on app?  While it is an app where people can share their life experiences with others and allows people to keep up with each other.  It also can become a place where it is one-upmanship where one tries to show how their experiences top the experience of their Facebook friends.  And for those with fewer life experiences, it can just bring them down. It’s becoming a generation where it is all about “me” and my rights and freedoms.  While the U.S. was founded on Judeo-Christian principals, these foundations are slowly eroding, as the rights of the individual to do what is right and wrong is stressed by the government over what is best for us working together looking out for each other as illustrated in the Bible.  This is supplanted with greed, envy, covetous hearts and money (mammon) replacing God as the individual’s idol and placing government in charge to steal from the more fortunate who worked hard to earn their place in society and to redistribute only part of their wealth as the government keeps a lions share of what they steal to continue to feed the government.  If you want another perspective of the cause of this, check out an article of how we are violating the 10 Commandments with our voting for the Left.  See David Kupelian’s article on “How the Left Revels in Violating the 10 Commandments (10 Commandments) and if you are a U.S. citizen, then ask yourself if you are a Christian, what ideals are you voting for?  And what happens as the government and the media try to advance a more secular society that deemphasizes God and puts man more in charge of determining what is right and wrong?  See this piece by Patrice Lewis (Disregard God and Violence Results).
  36. Isaiah 13:9-14Keep in mind that this prophecy has a double meaning, applying both to the destruction of Babylon in Isaiah’s day and to the inevitable judgment that is to come at the end of human 1 (see outlines and notes—Mt. 24:1-31).
    1) When the Day of the Lord strikes, it will be a time of paralyzing terror (vv. 7-8). All hands will be weakened and fall limp; all hearts will melt. People will be overwhelmed with fear and gripped by agonizing pain, like the pain of a woman in labor. Looking aghast at each other, people will sense the horror and utter helplessness of their situation.
    2) Note that the Day of the Lord is again mentioned by Isaiah. It is to be a day of God’s wrath and fierce anger (v. 9). God is going to execute His justice against all the unjust who have mistreated others. His judgment is going to fall upon all the evil and wicked of the earth.
    3) God’s day will be a day of destruction, a day when both the earth and sinners will be destroyed. Keep in mind the double application of this passage, applying to the final judgment as well as to the immediate destruction of Babylon. In the words of H.C. Leupold, “though the emphasis seems to lie on the worldwide aspect of what transpires, in the last analysis what befalls Babylon is under consideration.”
    4) The Lord’s Day of Judgment will involve some astronomical changes (v. 10). The heavens—the sun, moon, and stars—will be darkened. Their lights will not shine in the sky, neither by day nor by night. Of course, this refers to God’s judgment in the end times.
    5) God’s day will be a day of punishment for the whole world (v. 11). In this particular verse, God’s judgment is definitely stretched beyond Babylon to include the whole world. The wicked will be judged for their sins, the proud for their arrogance, and the ruthless for their haughtiness.
    6) God’s Day of Judgment will leave few survivors (v. 12). Leupold points out that two words are used in this verse for man. The first refers to the average person, and the second to important persons throughout the community. The once populous Babylon will have few citizens left. And after the judgment of the last days, only believers will survive.
    7) The Day of the Lord will be a day of shaking the entire universe (v. 13). The heavens themselves will shake as well as the earth. Perhaps this is a reference to violent storms or earthquakes, although it could mean there will be sudden and terrifying catastrophes in the atmosphere in the last days (see 2 Pe. 3:1-12).
    8) The Lord’s day will be a day of flight and of savage brutality (v. 14). Like a hunted gazelle, known for its speed, or a sheep wandering without a shepherd, people will flee and seek safety from the coming destruction. But those of Babylon who are captured will be killed. In utter horror the citizens of Babylon will witness their children being brutally slaughtered, their property looted of all valuables, and their wives and daughters being raped.

  37. First, on that great and final day, the wrath of God will explode upon the world like the bursting of a dam, with the mountains dissolving in mud-slides of human blood (v. 3). God is patient with human evil, more patient than we would be. He is giving everyone a chance. But his patience will have an end, because he is also just, more just than we are, more just than we wish he would be. Secondly, the sword of God will descend from Heaven. And how can we run from that? What canopy of defense can deflect the tip of the sword of God?  Thirdly, there will be a final sacrifice. All the moral guilt not paid for by the sacrifice of Christ will be paid for by the guilty themselves. Someone will be sacrificed for your sins, either Christ as your substitute or you yourself. But God will balance out the scales of justice in your case. Fourthly, all this terrible finality has actually been scheduled on the calendar of this human history in which we are living. The Lord has a day. It is coming. God will not leave things hanging forever. He will vindicate the faith of everyone who trusts him (“for the cause of Zion,” v. 8). - From the readings located in the section “Two Final Outcomes in Isaiah 34-35 in Preaching the Word Commentary Series (40 Vols.) by R. Kent Hughs et al., Crossway Publisher.
  38. We must watch and be prepared for the fulfillment of the predictions in God’s Holy Word. Christ Himself instructed us to stand watch and be alert for His return to earth. He is coming back, and He could come back at any time, so we must be prepared. We must also be prepared for death because we could die at any moment. And when we die, we will immediately come face-to-face with the Lord to give an account of whether we accepted Christ as our Savior or defied and turned against Him. By watching and being prepared to meet the Lord, we keep ourselves focused upon Him and His Holy Word. Listen to what God’s Word says about watching and being prepared:
“Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh” (Mt. 25:13).
“Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak” (Mt. 26:41).
“Blessed are those servants, whom the lord when he cometh shall find watching: verily I say unto you, that he shall gird himself, and make them to sit down to meat, and will come forth and serve them” (Lu. 12:37).

“Therefore watch, and remember, that by the space of three years I ceased not to warn every one night and day with tears” (Ac. 20:31).
Watch ye, stand fast in the faith, quit you like men, be strong” (1 Co. 16:13).
Continue in prayer, and watch in the same with thanksgiving” (Col. 4:2).
“Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness. Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober” (1 Th. 5:5-6).
“Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ” (Tit. 2:12-13).
“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world” (1 Pe. 5:8-9).
“Be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die: for I have not found thy works perfect before God. Remember therefore how thou hast received and heard, and hold fast, and repent. If therefore thou shalt not watch, I will come on thee as a thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee” (Re. 3:2-3).
“Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown” (Re. 3:11).
“Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame” (Re. 16:15)

  39. In the prophecy of the present Scripture, Isaiah gives us a glimpse into God’s plan. After the terrifying days of universal judgment known as the Great Tribulation, Jesus Christ will then establish the kingdom of God on earth. The King is coming just as John the Baptist and Christ proclaimed (Mt. 3:2; 4:17). From the beginning of creation, God’s purpose has been to bring His kingdom to earth, and He has a seven-step plan to accomplish His purpose. This is, God’s Plan for the Whole World and for His People: God’s Seven-Step Plan for the World, 25:1-12.
    1. God’s plan to establish a personal relationship with His people: to be “my God” to every individual believer (v. 1).
    2. God’s plan to establish His worship among all people (salvation of the Gentiles) (vv. 2-3).
